Starting point: Cologne main station – the ideal entry point
Cologne main station (Hauptbahnhof) is the perfect starting point. From here you can reach all the important sights on foot. Plan around 8 to 9 hours in total for the whole day — with breaks and at a relaxed pace.
Stop 1: Cologne Cathedral – the most important first stop
Duration: about 30 to 60 minutes
Right at the station exit you stand before Cologne Cathedral.

- visit the interior (free of charge)
- take your time to let the architecture work on you
- optionally climb the tower

Stop 2: Hohenzollern Bridge – a short walk, a big impression

From the cathedral you reach the Hohenzollern Bridge in a few minutes. Highlights: the view of the cathedral, the Rhine panorama and the famous love padlocks. Walk to the middle of the bridge — the view is best there.
Stop 3: KölnTriangle – an overview of the city
Duration: about 30 to 45 minutes
On the right bank of the Rhine you will find the KölnTriangle. Why this stop makes sense: you see Cologne from above and understand the city’s layout better, which makes finding your way around much easier afterwards.

Stop 4: Rheinpark – a short rest
Duration: about 20 to 30 minutes
Directly behind the KölnTriangle lies the Rheinpark. Here you can take a breather before heading back into the lively city centre.
The way back: on foot or by cable car
You have two options for getting back to the left bank of the Rhine:
Option 1: on foot

Back on the left bank, head into the Old Town. What awaits you: narrow lanes, historic houses, brewery taverns and restaurants, and the Rhine promenade. This is the right place for a break and some lunch.
Stop 6: Chocolate Museum – a relaxed item on the programme
Duration: about 1 to 1.5 hours
After the break, the Chocolate Museum is a good choice. Admission: approx. €15. Highlights: history, production and the chocolate fountain. At the weekend in particular, it is worth buying a ticket in advance.
Stop 7: Rheinauhafen – a modern contrast
Duration: about 30 to 45 minutes
Right next to the museum lies the Rheinauhafen. Highlights: modern architecture, the Crane Houses and a calm atmosphere. Here you experience a completely different side of Cologne.
To finish: the walk back along the Rhine
Duration: about 1 to 1.5 hours (including breaks)
To finish, walk back towards the Old Town. The stroll along the Rhine is especially pleasant in the late afternoon or evening, and the view of the cathedral rounds off the day.
