If you want to see Cologne from a different perspective, the KölnTriangle is well worth planning in. From the outside, the modern glass tower on the right bank of the Rhine looks rather understated — but at the top, one of the city’s most impressive views awaits.
The decisive difference: here you do not stand among the sights, but look across at them. Cologne Cathedral in particular takes on a character all of its own from this perspective.
What is the KölnTriangle?
The KölnTriangle is an office building in the Deutz district, directly opposite Cologne’s Old Town. At a height of around 100 metres there is a publicly accessible platform that offers a panoramic view over the city. The viewing platform is fully walkable and offers an unobstructed view in all directions.
Why is the KölnTriangle viewing platform worth it?
The view from above makes all the difference. Cologne suddenly feels easy to take in — and impressive at the same time. From up here you see:
- Cologne Cathedral in its full size
- the Hohenzollern Bridge with trains passing by
- the Old Town along the Rhine
- the course of the Rhine in both directions
- and, in good visibility, even the Siebengebirge
A particularly lovely time is the late afternoon, so you experience the city in daylight and the transition into the evening mood at the same time.
How high is the platform?
The platform sits at around 103 metres. A modern lift takes you to the top in a few seconds. Once up there, you can walk all the way around the platform; the glass and safety construction creates an open yet secure feeling.
